- Last On, First Off: Always apply perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, and cosmetics before putting on your jewelry. Chemical residue can build up on stones and dull their luster or damage delicate surfaces.
- Avoid Harsh Environments: Remove jewelry before swimming (chlorine damages metals and finishes), hot tubs, ocean bathing, exercising, or performing household chores.
- Store Privately: Store each piece individually in its original pouch or lined box to prevent metals and harder stones (like diamonds) from scratching softer gems.

1. Emeralds & Clarity-Enhanced Gemstones Special Nature:
Fine natural emeralds typically feature natural internal characteristics (jardin) and are traditionally treated with colorless oils or resins to enhance clarity.
Cleaning: Clean only with a soft, dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. Use cool water and mild, unscented soap if necessary.
Crucial Warning: Never expose emeralds or clarity-enhanced stones to ultrasonic cleaners, steam units, alcohol, solvents, or hot water. These methods strip away organic oils, leaving the stone looking cloudy or brittle.
2. Pearls, Mother-of-Pearl & Organic Gems Special Nature:
Pearls and organic gems are soft, porous, and sensitive to acids, heat, and dryness.
Cleaning: Wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with warm water after every wear. Allow them to air-dry completely flat before storing.
Crucial Warning: Never submerge pearls in water or liquid cleaners. Avoid ultrasonic cleaning, steam, detergents, vinegar, or ammonia. Store pearls flat in a breathable cloth pouch—never in airtight plastic bags, which can dry them out and cause crazing.
3. Opals & Porous Gemstones Special Nature:
Opals contain natural water content, making them susceptible to sudden temperature fluctuations and moisture loss.
Cleaning: Clean using a soft cloth and mild soapy water.
Crucial Warning: Avoid sharp temperature swings (e.g., hot water to freezing air), which can cause cracking (crazing). Never clean opals in ultrasonic or steam machines.
4. Diamonds, Sapphires & Rubies Special Nature:
Rated 9 to 10 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, these gems are exceptionally durable and resistant to scratching, making them ideal for daily wear.
Cleaning: Soak briefly in warm water mixed with mild dish soap. Gently scrub behind the setting, where oils accumulate, using a soft-bristled tooth brush. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.
Note: Ultrasonic cleaners are generally safe for unheated or traditionally heat-treated diamonds, sapphires, and rubies, provided the setting is secure and stones are free of severe inclusions.
